Team Overkill Lives Up to Their Name
“It’s not the size of the dog in the fight; it’s the size of the fight in the dog.” That saying couldn’t be more fitting for the 26th Annual Mercury/SeaVee Pompano Beach Saltwater Showdown.
Facing off against seasoned veterans with the resources for bigger boats, more power, and cutting-edge electronics might seem intimidating. While those things can be bought, the tenacious crew of series rookies on Overkill, aboard their 2000 29’ SeaVee, proved that heart and determination are priceless. With top-five finishes in Legs 1 & 2, they stayed in the mix all season long — their collective resilience and willpower of a team driven to win finally came to light at the Saltwater Showdown. The team reeled in four kingfish and a tuna for an aggregate weight of 137.5 lbs beating the MacDaddy crew by a narrow margin of six ounces. The victory earned them a laundry list of awards for a total payout of $31,334.
